Rockets continue to be fired from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory for the second day. The Israel Defense Forces continue to strike militants targets in the Gaza strip.
On the morning of 5 May, one person had died in Ashkelon as a result of the bombing of Gaza, eight were injured and two others were injured. Dozens of citizens needed medical assistance to help them recover from the shock.

The army pointed out that Hamas used civilians as human shields in the centre of the civilian district as a military installation.

20:12. Palestinian sources: The Israeli Air Force has targeted the Hamas head of security.

The driver, a male of about 60 years of age, was fatally injured by the direct impact of the missile on the vehicle. Doctors at Barzilay Hospital in Ashkelon confirmed his death.
After the attack, traffic on the specified section of Highway 34 was banned.
A similar attack using the Kornet anti-tank complex was carried out by Gaza militants on 12 November 2018, when an Israeli bus was hit near the Black Arrow military memorial at a time of tension on the border with Gaza. A soldier had been seriously injured by the missile explosion. About 50 soldiers had just got off the bus when it was hit.
On April 7, 2011, a passenger bus had already been hit by a Kornet rocket between Kibbutz Nahal Oz and the Sa’dah intersection, killing one person.
It is not clear which Kornet anti-tank missile was used – the Russian-made model or its Iranian “copies”.

17:22. IDF attacks targets in Gaza: Governor’s Palace attacked
At around 5 p.m. on 5 May, at around 5 p.m., the IDF fired at least two rockets at the “Governor’s Palace” in western Gaza City, according to the Palestinian Information Centre based in Hamas.

Note that trains to Be’er-Sheva only pass through Lod, Kiryat Gat, Lehavim and Rahat.
By order of the security forces, the track through Ashkelon, Sderot, Netivot and Ofakim remains closed.

The Israel Defense Forces Press Office reports that Ahmad Khudari (born in 1985), owner of the exchange company Hamad Lalasrafa/Alufak, declared a terrorist organization by the Israeli authorities in June 2018, was killed following a strike against his vehicle in the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli intelligence, Hudari is responsible for significant transfers of funds from Iran to entities in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas confirmed the name of the victim: Hamid Ahmad Abdul Khudari (34 years old).

15:02. Meeting of the political-military cabinet
In Tel Aviv, the political-military cabinet met in Tel Aviv to discuss developments in the Gaza Strip and southern Israel.

The Prime Minister is reportedly planning to submit new proposals for action against terrorists in Gaza to the Cabinet for approval.

The IDF press service reports that on 4 and 5 May, approximately 260 targets of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the DFLP were hit.

12:30. Palestinian activists fired on Ashkelon from Gaza
Tzeva Hell’s sirens were heard again in Ashkelon. Hamas claims to have fired a missile towards the city.
A rocket hit a house in the Hof Ashkelon area, damaging the house. No victims were reported.
